📘 Course Overview
Mental health is increasingly recognised as a global priority, especially within the European Union, as reflected in the European Commission Communication “A comprehensive approach to mental health” (7 June 2023) and the European Parliament resolution of 12 December 2023. However, the global burden of mental health conditions continues to rise, deepening the gap between individuals in need and the capacity of mental health systems to provide effective care.
This course provides a comprehensive introduction to the field of Global Mental Health, an evolving area of research and practice dedicated to the prevention, treatment, and care of mental and substance use disorders, as well as the promotion of mental wellbeing across the world. Informed by a wide array of disciplines—such as neuroscience, psychology, sociology, medical anthropology, epidemiology, health services research, and implementation science—this course places strong emphasis on equity, cultural context, and multidisciplinary collaboration.
