📘 Course Overview
Crises, disasters, humanitarian emergencies, and armed conflicts affect communities around the world—regardless of location or income level—leaving deep psychological and social impacts alongside physical harm. These adversities can lead to both immediate distress and long-term mental health challenges, especially for vulnerable populations such as children and their caregivers. As a result, Mental Health and Psychosocial Support (MHPSS) has become an essential component of emergency and development responses worldwide.
This course provides a comprehensive and practice-oriented introduction to MHPSS. It focuses on understanding the multi-layered needs and resilience-building strategies that can be applied in diverse crisis contexts. Students will critically examine existing gaps between MHPSS needs and system capacities at national, regional, and community levels, and explore practical tools and models to bridge these gaps.
