The Measuring Mental Health Among Adolescents and Young People at the Population Level (MMAPP) initiative, led by UNICEF, addresses the critical data gap in adolescent mental health, particularly in low- and middle-income countries. By developing a culturally adaptable and clinically validated data collection tool, MMAPP aims to assess the prevalence of mental health conditions such as anxiety and depression among individuals aged 10 to 24. This tool is integrated into the Multiple Indicator Cluster Surveys (MICS), enabling comprehensive analysis of mental health outcomes alongside other well-being indicators. The initiative also focuses on producing guidelines for cultural adaptation and data interpretation, establishing global mental health indicators, and disseminating knowledge products to inform effective policies and programming.
